Vaporizers are one of the most efficient and effective ways to get a delicious, potent smoke. Sadly, this technology is still misunderstood by so many people who enjoy cannabis. In this post, I’ll do my best to shed some light on how vaporizers work for dry herbs and why you should use one instead of combustion.
The first step is choosing a vaporizer that works for your needs – let’s take a quick look at some styles: desktop, portable, or handheld models. If you have time to set up your vaporizer in advance or need access to your vape from anywhere, stick with the desktop design (which usually sits on top of your table). Consider a handheld or portable vaporizer if you want something simple and portable.
The most important thing to remember with these designs is that they get hot, so be careful and consider where you are using them. You could get burned if you accidentally touch the heating element, especially on the portable units. A desktop vaporizer is best if many people use it since it is more expensive than mobile models and takes longer to heat up.
Once your vaporizer is picked out, it’s time to explore what’s inside: coils or screens. Some range of dry herb vaporizers has either an exposed heating coil or a screen that holds the herbs in place for vaporization. We’ll go into more detail about this later. For now, let’s focus on the typical vaporizer model. Most portable vaporizers use a heating coil. These are made from ceramic or quartz and heat up rapidly as they channel the heat through a metal tube to be evenly distributed on the metal element (the stem).
Now you have your vaporizer and your e-liquid. It would be best if you boiled it down next so that it will come out of your vape in a condensed form. The easiest way to do this is by filling your vape up with water or alcohol. You can fill it up halfway with your liquid and then put your dry herbs in and shake the vape to make sure that you have a good mixture. It may take more than one boiling up to get the exact consistency that you want, but this method is 100% safe and will not damage your vape or eliquid.
Pour the contents of your vape into a glass jar, then fill it with water or alcohol (you don’t need to add any liquid because the liquid will come out when you use it. You can also just put your vape on top of some flat rocks in a pot of water on the stove; be careful, though, because if you put it directly in hot water, it might get damaged).
